Shani Saturn Advent into Capricorn – Intense Deadly-fearful-Transformations

SHANI’s entry into Makar Capricorn How will the Karmic Lord affect you for next Two and Half Years?

Saturns Ingress into Capricorn

1:22am 24 Jan 2020 UK

Shani Saturn ingressed into sidereal Capricorn on 24 January 2020 into the Nakshatra of Uttarasadha, Ingress chart below. Libra rises, and Saturn is with Sun and Mercury creating a Shraddha yoga A combination, which is of mourning one feels at a funeral or cremation grounds.

Capricorn is night strong sign, will deliver results later half of the Transit. Zodiac sign of Makar Capricorn has strong parallels with a feeling of being in a perpetual period of grief and mourning from funeral cremation grounds. That is the essence of the sign Makar Capricorn in the ancient Indian Vedic context.

What gives this very earthy sign a depressive, unsavoury reputation?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SIGN MAKARA CAPRICORN IN VEDIC

Goddess Ganga represents River Ganges which is one of the holiest rivers originating from the head of Shiva. She came down for mankind to give moksha liberation from the infinite cycle of death and rebirth. Millions go to her for washing off their sins and spreading ashes of the deceased, with the hope for liberation of the soul. Sign of Capricorn Makar is synonymous with Makara the beast, that has connotations of the grotesque, the horrible, the swampy nature of tamas, the darkness generated by death. Goddess Ganga, by riding this giant celestial grotesque makara is trying to show us that we need to conquer our own tamas Guna, where we are shrouded in darkness and ignorance. By purification and knowledge, elevate us to achieve higher state of consciousness.

It is for this reason Chandi, a form of Kali is also depicted riding on Makara. Even Mahavishnu Lord of all the Worlds and his consort Maha Laxmi, goddess of wealth and abundance has strong associations with this part-gargoyle beast.

Puranas and the Samhitas written in Sanskrit, carry the above associations of the zodiac sign of Makar or Capricorn. Sanskrit being a mathematical, sacred language, everything is derived and has deep meaning. Nothing is by-chance. Hence the oldest language on the planet gives us the origins of all creatures, their inherent meaning and derive their tattva (Element) and their Gunas (Attitude/essence).

Makara, the celestial beast crocodile that resides at sea and as well as on land and has strong associations with River Narmada and Vedic deity Varuna. Varuna is the God of Sky, water and the great Oceans and symbolise the truth and justice within us. Nothing moves without his permission and his vehicle is the Great Makara. He rules the western direction, where Planet Saturn is in great planetary strength!

Makara symbolises the insignia of the Vedic God of Love, Kamadeva, also known as Makaradhvaja, meaning – one whose flag depicts a makara. Lust, love, longing and mad with desires is all the domain of Lord Kamadeva. Yet he came as various avatars on Earth, as Samba, Son of Lord Krishna. The reason being quite simple, after one is spent by one’s lusty desires, and witnesses the devastation created within and in the lives around us, one can begin to take steps towards regeneration with higher spiritual consciousness and a renewed sense of purity.

It is said in the ancient purana that Lord Krishna incarnated as Kamadeva in Vrindavan to have a Lila play with 100’s of gopis. This is the spiritual and divine love that the gopis had for Lord Krishna came to symbolize. Similarly, by focusing on the divine unconditional aspect of love, the lusty aspect of desires and longings by Love-Cupid God Kamadeva, can be overcome within us.

New Moon and Shani's Entry into Capricorn

Jan 24 2020 New Moon occurs and the same day Saturn’s advent into Sidereal Capricorn

The day Saturn enters Capricorn, also happens a very powerful New Moon occurs at 10 degrees 14′ at 9:44 pm GMT. The New Moon is in the Nakshatra of Shravana, pada 1. This is Aries Navamsa, where the Sun exalts, but the Moon is under stress in the sign of Aries in Navamsa. Anyways, A new Moon has delegated its power to the Sun, as it is the ‘dominant’ light. It is also in Shukla Pratipad, where the Sun has an enormous Dosha, problems. Naturally, in the myth Shani Saturn is the son of Surya Sun, the battle of father and son, is very much alive in this configuration, with Saturn being very strong and over powering the Sun.(Read the most famous myth of Saturn and Sun on the website)

EVENTUALLY JUPITER CONJOINING SATURN IN CAPRICORN, PLOT THICKENS…ADD RAHU_KETU INTO THIS MIX

Shani is in Svashetra or its own home in Makar Capricorn. It is at the Tattva Elemental level, as in, it is in a deep state of meditation and penance. And to access the energies of Saturn will be not as straight forward as one might think. The exaltation sign of Saturn is Libra, and Venus being ruler of Libra, will give significant results with her transit, rather than Saturn. Moreover, Saturn in Capricorn aspects dhrishti the sign of Libra, so invariably Venus will get involved. [Saturn’s Dhrishti or aspect in Vedic is 3rd, 7th and 10th house from where it is placed]

Venus with its motion in various signs over the course of two and half years will give the results. Venus’s exaltation sign is Pisces, ruled by Jupiter, and Jupiter goes into Capricorn conjoining Saturn in Nov 2020 to 2021. Ingress chart below. So, almost half the period while Saturn is in Capricorn, we find Jupiter there, thus forming the great Brahma Yoga.  Undoubtedly, coming together of Saturn & Jupiter is a 60-year cycle and, is epic. (which will be dealt with in depth, later).

Adding the two mischief makers of the Planetary Pantheon, The Nodal Axis – Rahu & Ketu will aspect through the signs of Taurus-Scorpio throughout August 2020 to 2021. This signals for massive large-scale churning! The element of Earth (Capricorn, Taurus) are going to be places where it is going to be maximum churning. And the actual field where it will play out will be in the sign of Aries, which is ruled by Mars. So now we have an emerging picture…Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu-Ketu, Mars and Venus. Transits of Venus and Mars will gain added importance, when the nodes move into the Taurus-Scorpio axis, as they are ruled by Venus and Mars respectively. Add to this mix, Mars and Venus go retrograde, ensuring, we redo, rewire, redress all that has been shoved under the carpet, things we have avoided, neglected. So, what began as a simple Saturn’s ingress for 2 and half years in its home sign of Capricorn has got all the heavy weights involved over the next few years ensuring that there is little escape!

Saturn is Saturn one of the slowest moving outer planets, in Jyotish Vidhya he is referred to as Manda, or slow, dull. His essence might be cold, aloof and slow, but make no mistake, what he gets done, once and for all, no planet can reverse it.

He has the power of longevity, and he the natural karaka of death, loss, disease, defamation, misery, degradation, menial work, reproach, poverty, labour, sin, impurity, censure, misfortune, constancy, sense of guilt, association with and shelter under the low, drowsiness, debts, iron, servitude, agricultural tools, litigation and captivity. Is it any wonder that Saturn is significator of the 6th house (Mars shares the karakatwa signification with Saturn for 6th), 8th house and the 12th house?

So, if you have planets in these houses look very closely where Saturn is in your chart and its strength. So, if your natal Moon, Jupiter, Venus or Mercury in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses, you would want Saturn to be angular houses or aspecting the Ascendant or in a benefic sign or in strength. So, it can aid for cleansing and purification.

Hence, if any planet you want to have on your side, it is Saturn. Being slow, he delivers his karmic lessons with due ‘interest’ over long periods of time, but they will be guaranteed to happen. Escaping Saturn’s karmic debt is akin to saying, is there an antidote to death?!

So how do we play ball with this cold epic giant?

NATURE OF SATURN

Arki, Manda are other names of Saturn as per Jataka Parijata, colour is blue-black, and season is Shishir Winter (from Jan 10th – March 10 approx.). It rules Period of One year and is strong in the Western direction and represents the element Vayu Air. Taste associated with Saturn is Astringent, which is dry, cold flavour. It is made from the earth and air elements and is heavy, cold and dry. This flavour makes your whole mouth perk and contract and draws the mucus membranes closer. A bit like chewing on cranberries. The astringent flavour is found in plant compounds known as tannins. Hence the drying nature of a strong cup of tea left too steep for too long. Legumes like kidney, fava beans and lentils come in this category. Fruits like cranberries, pomegranates, dried fruit and vegetables e.g. Broccoli, cauliflower, artichoke, asparagus, turnip etc fall under Saturn.

Grains such as rye, buckwheat, quinoa and spices like asafoetida, turmeric, marjoram are all Saturn’s domain. Coffee and Teas are strongly associated with Saturn and is indeed high on caffeine and tannins.

This taste helps support wound repairing and where there is excess fluid or swelling in the body. Oil of Sesame and coconut are very helpful as Saturn’s remedies.

Here Venus gains in significance as It is in rising, in libra, and so it gains added energy. Especially in the United Kingdom. Women’s issues, independence, their way of being, the whole #Metoo movement etc will be strong focus. As Saturn & Jupiter both together will bring about a strong element of Capricorn, earthy transformations in housing, amongst social welfare, council housing, trusts, approach to health and wealth will completely change its course. Finally, the elephant in the room, BREXIT! As a Jyotishi/Astrologer, there are no ‘co-incidences’, Saturn & Jupiter forming Brhma Yoga, will help actualize some financial and material decisions regards Brexit. This yoga is happening in the 4th house, so later this year it will gather huge momentum.

And it will ensure the whole sordid saga of past two years is put to rest, Saturn is Saturn one of the slowest moving outer planets, in Jyotish Vidhya he is referred to as Manda, or slow, dull. His essence  might be cold, aloof and slow, but make no mistake, what he gets done, once and for all, no planet can reverse it. He has the power of longevity, and he the natural karaka of death, loss and disease, which is 8th house , 12th house and 6th house. (Mars shares the karakatwa signification with Shani for 6th). Hence if any planet you want to have on your side, it is Saturn. Being slow, he delivers his karmic lessons with due ‘interest’ over long periods of time, but they will be guarenteed to happen. Escaping Saturn’s karmic debt is akin to saying, is there an antidote to death?! As the old cliche goes, only death and taxes are guaranteed, and both are domains of the 8th house whose significator is Saturn. Let’s face it, disease, fear, death, disorder are the biggest ailments gripping Human civilisations for eons. Cultures & lineages have fallen and risen because of that. So how do we play ball with this cold epic giant? Lets take a look at what Saturn wants from us and what he epitomises.

WHAT SATURN STANDS FOR ? A VEDIC COSMOLOGICAL VIEW

Shani Saturn is associated with the Kūrma Avatar a form of Vishnu or Narayana. From KūrmaPurāa we get a glimpse that everything in this universe is Narayana and out of him is the born Brahma, to create the world, Vishnu to manage the universe and finally Rudra who is able to complete the pralaya destruction after a few yugas and the process begins again. Lord Vishnu is entrusted with sustenance of the universe.

Samudra Manthan or the Churning of the Ocean Floor for divine nectar is central to the cosmology of the Vedas and the Puranas.

The episode of the Churning of the ocean floor is mentioned in quite a few of the Mahapuranas, including the Kūrma, Brhmavarta, Vishnu, to name a few.

Asuras or demigods, a group of malicious deities in the Hindu pantheon, were gaining power over the angelic Devatas. Despite the Devas fighting bravely and being successful, they felt threatened and went to Lord Vishnu for help.

Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the universe advised the Devas that if they were to collaborate diplomatically with the Asuras and churn the floor of the ocean to extract Amrita, the nectar of immortality. The nectar would bring them immeasurable powers of knowledge, untold abundance, wealth, fortunes and eventually immortality.

When they began their collaboration with the Asuras and the Serpent King Vasuki, the Devas withheld this divine secret. Churning of the Ocean of Milk was an inconceivably elaborate process.

Mount Mandara was used as the churning rod and Vasuki served as the churning rope with the Devas on one end of the serpent King Vasuki and the Asuras at the tail. The process began vigorously and, as a result, the ocean floor began to sink down.

Lord Vishnu as Kūrma, the celestial tortoise is the central key figure, who sat at the bottom of the Mount Mandara.

Fourteen different valuable power giving treasures came out of the ocean floor while churning, and these were mostly kept by Devas, although the Asuras hatched a plan and did try to cheat them out of some treasures.

Dhanvantari, the heavenly physician, emerged from the Ocean of Milk with a pot containing the Amrita, the nectar and soon fierce fighting for it started between the Devas and Asuras. Soon the Asuras, including the King Serpent Vasuki, had some of the nectar and began drinking it.

This sent alarm bells ringing amongst the Devas. Angered because of the deception, Lord Vishnu, then took the form of beautiful and enchanting damsel, Mohini to distract the Asuras and Vasuki the serpent from drinking the Nectar of immortality and powers.

Meanwhile, Sun God, Surya and the Moon God, Chandra noticed that Vasuki the serpent was not particularly distracted as other Asuras were. Vasuki had quietly began drinking part of the immortality nectar.

The Sun and Moon Gods gave heads up to Mohini, beautiful damsel, disguised as none other than Lord Vishnu himself. Vishnu swiftly with his discus cut the giant Vasuki. Alas, Vasuki had scoffed the nectar enough to make him immortal and cut in two, the head part of the serpent king became known as Rahu and the tail end as Ketu. As their deception had been detected, the two new entities (Rahu and Ketu) vowed that they would always eclipse the Sun and the Moon.

Some of the treasures that came out were, Uchhaishravas, the divine seven-headed horse of the Glorious Surya Sun God. Airavata, the mighty white King Elephant, Kamadhenu, the wish-granting cow; Parijat, the perpetually flowering tree; Shankha, the magic conch making the celestial sounds; the Sun Surya and the Chandra moon;

Samudra Manthan- Churning of the Ocean floor for Milk

Retrieval of the treasures created abundance that helped humanity to survive and thrive, the Kūrma the tortoise, provided the stability on which this entire production rest upon. As without Kūrma we would not have the gifts of healing, rejuvenating, managing crisis and death like situations and no access to alter our lives towards more stability and balance. In short, we would not be able to LIVE!

This gives us a clue to nature of Saturn. Saturn is that part in our chart, our life that delivers where we have defaulted and faulted and provides us plenty of opportunities for redressing, reparation work, reviewing the wrongs done in previous lifetimes, restitution, in short atonement. Unless we take the bull by its horns and address it, the stability, strength, constancy, the solidity of the rock that the celestial turtle Kūrma devata represents, will delude us in our lives. And our life will feel like a ‘football’ in the battlefield of being kicked by every passer-by…

ON A COLLECTIVE & PERSONAL LEVEL…

Last time key events that happened when Saturn moved through capricorn was The Wall Street Crash of 1929, is the stock-market crash that occurred starts on October 28th and started the period of The Great Depression in the United States, starting a world-wide economic crisis and lasting till the mid 1930’s.

Before that, in 1903 Orville Wright flies an aircraft with a petrol engine at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in the first documented, successful, controlled, powered, heavier-than-air flight. Again Saturn rules the Vayu Air Element, so this is a fabulous manifestation.

1960-62 saw Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is created. Saturn rules petroleum products etc.

  • Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin becomes the first person in space. One month later, Alan Shepard becomes the first American in space.
  • Construction on the Berlin Wall begins in an effort to separate East and West Berlin.
  • The Bay of Pigs invasion is an unsuccessful U,S, backed operation to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba.
  • The Peace Corps is created.
  • WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) is created.

-How very interesting that The BBC broadcasts the very first episode of the iconic television show “Doctor Who.” in 1963, when Saturn is about to exit Capricorn!

-United States President John F. Kennedy is assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.

-One of the coldest winters Big Freeze in 1962-63. Saturn always makes its presence felt….

Saturnian structures, political and learning institutions will be tried and tested, as Saturn will question, in every way the use/misuse of traditions, learning ancient knowledge. Our relationship with death, dying and disease will be the biggest outcome of this. In the natural Naisargika Zodiac, it rules the 10th and the 11th house. These represent the collective manmade structures and institutions of all kinds. Whether it is Spiritual, Vedic, Corporate, Social, Ecological, Economic, Educational, Political, what have you, all of them will be completely transformed for the better. In the interim, there will be periods of intense pain. Pain of demolition of the status quo. Like a miserably unhappy marriage, choices will be to leave ( destroy and start afresh) or stay with making the compromises that may have to be made to make it more ‘survivable’.

More so than ever we will see a more natural, freeing (if one can use the word, as we are in Saturn’s domain here) approach to all matters to do with hospice care, hospitals, alternative health care industry, biomedicines and Ayurveda, Yogic healing. Mindfulness was the buzzword for past few decades, as Saturn traversed through early 1990’s. Saturn’s realm, is Tapar Loka, where one reaches with great asceticism, penance, meditation and very strong determination combined with great personal sacrifice.

The whole mindfulness shebang started 30 years ago is a poor cousin of a highly attuned meditative states. One of the strongest offshoots, of Saturn’s journey now will be, of more people taking the tameness of mindful living to much higher levels and to be able to handle more rigid, ascetic spiritual practices. Spiritual practises of the Yogis, renunciates will be gather momentum and mass appeal. Saturn rules masses, people, social working classes.

Saturn in Capricorn will change our approach to materialistic tendencies, our approach to our bodies, health and healing, insurance, alternative health care, hospitals, hospices and retreats.

Saturn’s sojourn in the Sign of Capricorn will cover approx 3 NAkshatras (a part of Uttarasadha, Shravana and Dhanista). Each one giving a different result.
